Tragic Misuse of Victim's Credit Card on OnlyFans After Murder
In a case that has shocked the community, Jhon Chacaguasay-Ilbis was found guilty of not only murdering Joselyn Toaquiza on her 21st birthday but also of fraudulently using her credit card for various purchases, including a subscription to the content-sharing platform OnlyFans. The horrifying crime took place on June 18, 2024, when the two, both originally from Ecuador, checked into an Airbnb to celebrate.
Discovery and Investigation
Surveillance footage last showed Chacaguasay-Ilbis exiting the Airbnb with Toaquiza’s body hours after they arrived. She was reported missing the following day, and her body was eventually discovered in a shallow grave at a nearby park on June 22. An autopsy later confirmed that she had been strangled to death.
Evidence of Financial Fraud
During the investigation that followed, it was revealed that Chacaguasay-Ilbis had stolen Toaquiza's credit card and used it to make several transactions, including subscribing to OnlyFans. This misuse of her card added a layer of financial crime to the already heinous act of murder.
Trial and Sentencing
The motive behind Toaquiza's murder remained unclear throughout the trial, which only compounded her family's grief. Chacaguasay-Ilbis, who had been awaiting immigration hearings along with Toaquiza at the time of the murder, claimed he was heavily intoxicated and had no memory of the murder. Despite claims of his subsequent victimization, he was sentenced on March 10, 2025, to 23 years to life in prison. During the sentencing, he expressed remorse for the irreversible harm caused to Toaquiza's family.
Persistent Grief and Quest for Justice
The statement of Toaquiza’s father in court, describing his daughter as his "princess," poignantly highlighted the family's profound loss. Although no legal outcome can bring back Joselyn Toaquiza, her family continues to seek justice for her tragic death.
