In Styal, Cheshire, former reality TV star Ampika Pickston founded Moss Farm Children’s Home, initially opened in July to accommodate vulnerable girls aged 12 to 16. Despite lacking experience in childcare, Pickston, who also operates AP Care Homes Ltd as its sole director, projected substantial annual revenues of nearly £3 million from the facility. The home faced financial scrutiny, with costs potentially burdening taxpayers up to £14,000 per week for each child housed.
Operational Challenges and Regulatory Scrutiny
Moss Farm confronted multiple operational challenges and severe regulatory citations from Ofsted, the government body tasked with overseeing such facilities. Issues ranged from neglected meals, where one child reportedly went unfed for two days, to unmonitored internet access and the use of unapproved restraint techniques. More disturbingly, there was an incident where a child was sexually assaulted while off the premises.
Financial Backing and Legal Troubles
The home was financially supported with a significant £1.2 million loan from Rickleford Ltd, controlled solely by David Sullivan—Pickston’s fiancé and a known figure in both the adult entertainment industry and as co-owner of Premier League club West Ham United. This financial support sparked additional controversy due to Sullivan's controversial background, including previous relationships with models from his publications.
Following the cited deficiencies, Ofsted took decisive action by closing Moss Farm twice, with the final closure upheld after an unsuccessful tribunal appeal by AP Care Homes. In the wake of these closures, AP Care Homes has been involved in a legal battle, suing three Ofsted inspectors for alleged malicious conduct—a claim strongly denied by Ofsted and the accused inspectors.
