OnlyFans Creator Matthew Gilbert Settles Tax Claims in Ireland
Matthew Gilbert, an OnlyFans sensation and social media influencer widely recognized as the Irish Viking, has recently settled a significant tax dispute with the Irish Revenue authority. The settlement, which totaled over 350,000 euros, addressed claims of unpaid taxes including interest and penalties.
The Details of the Settlement
Gilbert, who resides in Rathdrum, County Wicklow, transitioned to OnlyFans as a primary income source after his barber shop shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic. His monthly earnings from the platform reportedly soared to as much as 50,000 euros. Under the settlement, Gilbert personally paid back 61,374 euros for undeclared income taxes, which, after including additional charges, amounted to 88,861 euros.
Corporate Compliance Issues
The tax scrutiny extended to Gilbert’s corporate interests as well. His company, Matty Irish Viking based on Dame Street in Dublin, was also found to have under-declared several tax components. Initially assessed at 191,464 euros for corporation tax, PAYE, PRSI, USC, and VAT underpayments, the final settlement figure after adding interest and penalties reached 266,693 euros.
Impact and Compliance of High Earning Social Influencers
This revelation was not isolated but part of a larger disclosure by the Irish Revenue, which has resolved 28 cases of tax defaults totaling 6.9 million euros in the last quarter alone.
It specifically underscores the challenges and obligations social media personalities face with tax compliance, an issue becoming more prominent as platforms like OnlyFans create significant revenue streams for content creators.
