Overview of Jefferson County Deputy's Misconduct

A Jefferson County sheriff's deputy, William J. Jackson Sr., faced termination following the discovery of inappropriate images and activities on FetLife, a social networking platform catered towards individuals interested in BDSM, fetishes, and kink. Jackson was found to have posted photos of himself in his uniform, displaying both his name and badge.

Violations and Misuse of Department Resources

Internal investigation documents highlighted that Jackson appeared to engage in sexual acts and utilized FetLife to solicit sex, promoting his adult massage service overtly on the platform. It was revealed that Jackson had contravened multiple department policies by advertising detailed services, including rates and specific outfits, as well as actively searching for female clients for sexual acts during massages.

FetLife's role in the incident underscores the risks and implications of social media misuse by law enforcement personnel. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department stressed that all deputies must seek prior approval for any secondary employment, which Jackson failed to do by launching an unapproved commercial venture.

Consequences of Misconduct

Sheriff John Aubrey denounced Jackson's actions, highlighting a significant lapse in judgment and the breach of ethics, Internet usage, and uniform protocols. Despite his dismissal on March 14, no criminal charges were pursued against Jackson due to a lack of evidence that his adult massage business had commenced operations.

Potential Revocation of Police Certification

The focus now transitions to whether job termination is adequate or if further actions, such as revoking Jackson's police certification, are warranted. This responsibility rests with the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council (KLEC), which prevents the transfer of officers with histories of misconduct to other agencies. The next KLEC meeting to discuss such cases is scheduled for late August.

Former KLEC member Alex Payne emphasized the necessity of maintaining integrity within the force, advocating for the revocation of certifications in instances of serious policy violations.

No Response from the Accused

As of now, William J. Jackson Sr. has not made any public comments regarding his dismissal or the forthcoming proceedings by the KLEC.
